Llangollen Railway

Sunday 15 April 2018

Today is Llangollen’s Spring Gala and it is also our 250th excursion which is why we are going to a special event at Llangollen rather than on a normal running day.

The Gala day will be featuring an intensive timetable of both passenger and mixed traffic trains (timetable yet to be announced), a great collection of historic steam locomotives and special attractions taking place along the line.

There is expected to be events taking place at the various stations along the line.

Llangollen Railway are putting on a nostalgic event commemorating the end of BR steam 50 years ago and some of the early designs of historic diesels that superseded them.

The gala is expected to see the return to steam of 1938-built GWR Collett ‘Heavy Freight’ locomotive No. 3802 following a major overhaul.

Full details will be added closer to the event, which means that at this moment in time I cannot give you any idea of Loco’s or rolling stock although I have been reliably informed by Llangollen Railway that it will be all Steam.

The current running line is 10 miles long running west from Llangollen Station to their temporary station at Corwen East which was opened in March 2016, at present the train is pushed back to Carrog where the engine then runs round for the return journey to Llangollen Station, an extension is planned westwards towards Corwen to allow for a run round section so that the locos can haul the train back to Llangollen.

I am currently in negotiation with Llangollen for something a little extra for us on the day – it being our 250th trip – but it can’t be sorted until they have the timetable and rolling stock roster completed even so there is no guarantee it will take place, I will let you know as soon as I know anything – alternatively keep an eye on our web site for updates. There will be no additional cost to you.

Our last visit here was to the Steam Steel and Stars Gala in 2012.
